Seiche Model Facilitation Guide: Seiche waves can occur due seasonal temperature variations, wind, and Coriolis force or even seismic movement. It is a type of internal wave that occurs in a constrained or partially constrained body of water. This activity models seiche waves by using containers with different shaped bottoms and plastic and rubber inserts to model waves in lakes. By comparing what happens in the various models, visitors learn how lake shape can impact how water moves and flows.
